Accolades & Protests Important topic, too seldom talked about. Thanks for the article. Check out a few similar snippets about affluenza and entitlement on my blog: http://theaestheticelevator.com/tag/entitlement/ -posted by The Aesthetic Elevator on Monday, April 30, 2007 - 6:03 pm

Excellent article. Very appropriate. I would also suggest frequenting second-hand stores and garage sales to find what you need... I recently purchased a silverware organizer for 25 cents rather than spending $4 on a brand-new one. Every time I open my silverware drawer, I'm like, "Yes! Twenty-five cents!" -posted by Ann on Monday, April 30, 2007 - 2:24 pm

Do You Have Affluenza?

For a little self-diagnosis, consider these questions from De Graaf’s book, Affluenza:
1. Do you try to impress your friends with what you own, or where you vacation?
2. Do you ever use shopping as therapy?
3. Do you sometimes go to the mall just to look around, with nothing specific to buy?
4. Given the choice between a slight pay raise and a shorter workweek, would you choose the money?
5. Have you ever lied to a family member about the amount you spent for a product?
6. Are any of your credit cards “maxed out”?
7. Do you have more than five active credit cards?
8. When you get a raise at work, or some unexpected money, do you immediately think about how you can spend it?
9. In general, do you think about things more than you think about people?
10. Do you have more stuff than you can store in your house?
