Candlelit Cantelope
by ZIA editor
About this time of year, we always bring out a tride and true favorite for a light spring dessert that is fun, simple and unique. One ZIA editor's husband introduced this dessert years ago as a bachelor's version of elegance in trying to woo the woman of his dreams.

All you need is a fragrant cantelope and a scrumptious vanilla bean ice cream. That's right, just cut the melon in half, remove the seeds and voila! Two perfects bowl for two scoops of vanilla ice-cream. If you need to, cut off the bottom of the cantelope so it sits flat in the bowl, but you're going to need a pretty big bowl. It may be on the "healthy" side of desserts, but it certainly is not on the "small" side of desserts.

Variations include compatible flavors of sorbet, thinly slice strawberries or honeydew instead of cantelope.

Fun for kids, easy enough for love-struck bachelors and classy enough for ZIA. What a dessert. | COMMENTS (3)

The Crackdown Begins
by ZIA editor
Though we are fascinated with the life of pirates through the eyes of Johnny Depp, the day may be coming when 21st century pirates will face some stiff consequences of thier pillaging. Better make sure that loot of music is legit, the crackdown on pirated media is on it's way.

Think Small
by ZIA editor
If you think your studio apartment is small, try moving into a 100-square-foot home from the Tumbleweed Tiny House Co. The ground floor has a kitchen, bathroom, and a multipurpose space for living room, work space and dining room. An upstairs loft bed serves as the bedroom. While these homes are indeed tiny compared to the average American home size of 2,500 square feet, the owners of these tiny homes like the simplicity of living small. While living in a home smaller than some closets seems a little extreme to us, it is certainly fascinating to see how others are living with less. Want of the Week: The Classic French Press
by ZIA editor
We love our coffee, and although we often settle for the five-minute version, we're in love with the rich taste of French press coffee when time allows. Brewing in a French press keeps flavor packed oils and acids intact, resulting in a vigorous flavor. Although the brewing process requires more attention than a standard cup from the pot, a mug of coffee made in a French press goes well with the relaxing pace of dinner with good friends and family. Serve with heavy cream and raw sugar for added novelty.

The Best Part of Waking Up
by ZIA editor
Boasting the "best selling coffee at the New Mexico State fair 7 years," we think this coffee will be the best loved coffee in our kitchen for longer than that. New Mexico Piñon Coffee was the tastiest surprise that found its way into the Trader Joe's shopping cart recently. Not only does this coffee sport the classic New Mexico red and yellow Zia symbol (though not the derivation of ZIA mag, a fun side-benefit), the catch phrase on the bag sums it up, "in the matter of taste there is no argument."

Starbucks may make the best venti, non-fat, no whip, two-pump, mocha; but when it comes to brewing the perfect pot for a special guest or to go with the morning routine, this is one you have to try. It is available at most Trader Joe's grocery stores or directly from their website at http://www.nmpinoncoffee.com. | COMMENTS (3)
